Seventeen women are going head-to-head in a competition this weekend to determine who will be the next Miss Connecticut and eventually go on to Miss America in September.

But to get to the scholarship award that goes along with the crown, the women square off by demonstrating their sense of style. The evening gowns and swimsuits are intended to demonstrate the contestants individuality. And each woman takes great pains to find “the one.”

Here is some of the style demonstrated by contestants during the preliminary competitions on Friday, June 17 at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret in Uncasville, Conn.
