Inspiration… and Redemption

Inspiration was a key word for Redemption, the fashion show fund raiser for the Salvation Army on Sept. 24.

There was inspiration for fashion as a number of designers put on a runway show featuring their creations made entirely of deconstructed clothing donated to the Salvation Army. The designers showed their artistic skills as they took what was old and demonstrated how they could make it new again.

Designers for the evening were Stacey Lawes, La’ Moo (Bertha Angelo), Faschinn (Chinnyere La’Rose), Ooak Eccentrix (Marion Imbruglio), Couture France, Catherine Henry, and Vilinda McGregor.

There was also fashion inspiration from another direction as organizers of Connecticut Fashion Week styled outfits for models and the SA’s Redemption Center’s clients, using the clothing on the racks at your neighborhood Salvation Army thrift store.

Finally, there was spiritual inspiration as several clients of the Salvation Army’s Redemption Center shared their stories of overcoming alcoholism, drug addiction, and a life of crime and homelessness. Several even walked the runway.

The goal of the Salvation Army is to use the fashion show as a launching point for a line of clothing similarly crafted from the discarded clothing donated to the SA and dub it “Redeemed.”
