It was appropriate that fashion icon Demi Lovato opened her show with her hit, “Confident.”

She stepped out on stage at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. July 6 in a body hugging, rock and roll wardrobe that confidently highlighted her feminine curves.

Looking healthy, fit, and muscular, she stepped onto stage in a shredded black hip length jacket. Underneath it, she had a leather-look body suit with a corset tight bodice touched with lace shoulders and sleeves. On her legs, she wore fishnet stockings over a nude colored body suit and thigh high black boots.

She was the epitome of rock star meets superhero. Black Widow, anyone?

And to further demonstrate her confidence, the body suit featured a cheeky backside that Demi confidently displayed for the predominantly female crowd.

Later on, Demi evoked Studio 54-era disco meets Vegas when she stepped onto stage in a teal, rhinestone-encrusted, jump suit. Again, the jump suit, which looked like something a vintage Cher or Diana Ross would wear, fit Demi’s healthy curves. Again, Demi’s fashion confidence shined through.

For an audience full of young women, Demi’s fashion sense clearly demonstrated the importance of embracing your own identity. And the styles worked for an entertainer who had the crowd eating out of her hand.

Male style icon Nick Jonas, who is Demi’s tourmate this summer, also demonstrated his rocker style when he stepped onto stage. Wearing a pair of Ray-Bans straight out of Tom Cruise’s “Risky Business,” the buzzcut adorned former teen idol, wore a well-tailored flight jacket, over a screen-printed rock t-shirt. The key to his ensemble were his jeans, which clearly had Air Force flight suit influenced roots (which tied in nicely with the jacket), but its asymetrical zippers cross cut throughout the legs gave the ensemble a contemporary edgy feel.

What really was impressive was that although Jonas reached into his inner rocker, he still looked polished. This was no sloppy lean, mean lead singer fronting a garage band.
