Steampunk, fashion, photos… and tea: Say hello to S2pid Cupid Feb. 18

On Feb 18th, 2017, the S2pid Cupid Steampunk Ball will be held at Deanston House on 625 Middle Turnpike Storrs Connecticut. This will be the second annual gathering of Steampunks, Goths, Whovians and Muggles organized by Oddball Newt. The first Stupid Cupid was held in Norwich Connecticut at the Wauregan Hotel Ballroom and despite the blizzard striking the state that day, Cupid’s aim was true and had people flocking to Connecticut from as far north as Vermont and as far south as Pennsylvania to partake in the fun. S2pid Cupid is not a misspelling but an indication that it is the event’s second year.

This year Cupid sets his sights on Deanston House, where the culinary delights and top shelf libations of Executive Chef James Fitzsimmons will be served. The performances have increased and the fashion show has doubled. Eli August, The Eternal Frontier and Connecticut’s very own Venus Lens Cap will serenade us with their atmospheric steampunk musical stylings. Haunting us from not quite the beyond with their dark but playful music will be the Goth band The Long Losts; bringing us back to the edge of the dark 80s will be November Party and paying homage to the late great David Bowie and Alan Rickman will be Platform One front man V Nigel Taylor. Throughout we will be at the pleasant mercies of the cabaret act The Boston Sprockets, who no doubt will do their rendition of Connie Francis’ “Stupid Cupid”.

Two very talented designers have come together to create a rich and vibrant array of steampunk fashions for the evening, they are Connecticut’s very own Nightwing Whitehead and Pennsylvania’s Midnight Orchid Design Ginger Seibert.

Bringing a bit of sophistication will be Windsor’s The Tea Round, Tea Hostess Serina Julien will be providing an authentic British tea experience, complete with cakes and crackers and an entertaining talk about tea etiquette and the history of “taking tea” . A tea time steeped in excitement is promised.

There will be art, photoshoot opportunities as well as food and drink available for purchase. There is a $10 cover charge. The event begins at three and goes until 1am or so.

Oddball Newt is the creative partnership of David and Linda Carlson who are event planners from Manchester Connecticut. They love art, dressing up in proper old timey whimey steampunk attire, doing fund raisers that benefit the community and consuming chocolate.
