A career in finance seemed to be calling Colette.

But a semester abroad in Italy turned her head around.

And she decided to become a fashion designer.

The result was Colette and Sebastian lingerie, which was presented to buyers and press at CurveNewYork early this month.

After her trip to Italy, Collette said she made a decision. Rather than pursue a finance degree, she was going to take up fashion design. She subsequently took night classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Mood (the famous fabric store in New York). There she learned how to sew and design.

Currently, Colette and Sebastian has four collections.

One uses fabric from Italy, which was inspired by her travels in Italy, said Colette. One is a more strappy, bondage-influenced line that is something you can wear under your clothes or in the bedroom, said Colette. There also is a lacy collection that she called cute and body flattering in a way that currently doesn’t exist in the market.

The three lines reflect her own tastes, said Colette. They are things you can wear under your clothes in a business environment, that may peek through that, give the serious work attire a splash of fun.
