Basic black, they say, is a must for any woman’s wardrobe.

And at the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Pageant finals on Saturday night at The Palace Theater in Waterbury, Conn., the opening number with the contestants drove home that point.

Each contestant– Miss or Teen, stepped out on stage for the opening dance number and the traditional introduction at the mike dressed in black. The fabrics changed. The silhouettes changed. The style — with cocktail dresses, rompers, and pant suits dominating– changed.

But every woman on stage offered up a touch of class– and solidarity– with their black attire.

Of course, the reigning Miss Connecticut Eliza Kanner and Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen Brooke Cyr, set themselves apart in stunning sparkling gold outfits.

For those keeping score, the new Miss Connecticut is Bridget Oei and the new Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen is Morgan Mancini.

This is what the audience saw when the contestants stepped on stage for the first time on Saturday evening.
