When you see them compete for a crown, evening gowns, cocktail dresses, business attire, athleisure wear, and swimsuits are the uniforms of necessity. But what do titleholders wear when the sash and crown are stashed away.

Meet International New England Teen and Miss Spirit of Connecticut Preteen Ava King.

“I would describe my personal style when I go out with friends as modern with a vintage twist,” said Ava. “I love mixing bright colors and modern pieces with items that I discover in vintage shops. Some weeks, I am obsessed with the latest trends and all I want to wear is the new, now, next, but I think the best thing is to be the one to start the, new, now, next. I don’t like looking the same as everyone else. If a trend is going around I’ll pair it with something unusual to make it my own. Taking a bright color bottom such as yellow shorts and mixing it with a checkerboard top, I definitely stand out from the crowd. Making a statement is definitely a part of style, and when I’m out with my friends I always aim to be myself; and with my outfits, that can be seen without saying a word.

However, said Ava, “When kicking it and being casual, I love to be comfortable and cute. Whether it’s a romper, a two piece matching set, or a baggy t-shirt and some denim shorts, I love to feel good about myself and know that if my friends suddenly ask to hangout, I won’t be making excuses for why I am dressed a certain way. Fashion is all about making sure you feel best in what you’re in no matter where you are or what you’re doing.”
