ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -With swimsuits gone from Miss America, this year a new phase of competition was introduced to take the place of Lifestyle and Fitness.

The new wrinkle in the scholastic competition is the on-stage interview. Contestants are now asked one question by the judge who first asked in a question in the private interview phase of competition. For this question, the contestants had 20 seconds to answer before being cut off.

Miss Connecticut Bridget Oei was asked about her platform STEM on the third night of preliminary competition at Boardwalk Hall.

For this phase, contestants were asked to select a wardrobe that reflected the notion that the on-stage interview was an interview for the job of Miss America.

This is what the contestants of the Sigma group wore on the third night of Miss America.
