The latest collection from children/ tween/ teen fashion designer Ydamys Simo evoked thoughts of Bikini Bottom– in the best sense of the word.

The new line was dubbed by the designer as “Sea the Beauty.” And there was a definite nautical/ old-time beachwear feel to the show that was held during Style Fashion Week on Sept. 8 at the Manhattan Center in New York City.

Watching the models walk the runway, I thought about how the wardrobe would have worked well for the Broadway musical, “SpongeBob SquarePants,” based on the beloved cartoon. The clothes would have fit in nicely with the imaginary community inhabited by Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward, and the faithful pet snail Gary.

The line was whimsical, clever, and fun– and, more importantly for parents willing indulge to invest in the styles from Ydamys Simo, it is age appropriate and celebrated childhood rather than exploited it.

The designer also used the runway showcase to celebrate diversity, including an inspiration moment when model Nick Santonastasso, who has a rare genetic condition called Hanhart Syndrome, made his way confidentally down the catwalk,.
