When Boscov’s opened up its Meriden, Conn. store, it was a “getting-to-know-you” moment in Connecticut.

With its new store at Milford, Conn.’s Connecticut Post Mall (now dubbed “The Post”), the family-owned department store has settled in nicely in the Nutmeg State.

On the day before their grand opening Oct. 6 at The Post, Boscov’s invited a small army of Connecticut influencers to get a behind-the-scenes peak at the new store and provided some incite into the chair.

The tour, led by the Reading, Pa. company’s Chairman & CEO Jim Boscov, provided an opportunity for members of Connecticut Bloggers Collective to see the broad assortment of goods in the store (which Boscov were sold at lower prices than their competitors). Along the tour, Boscov pointed out bedding, home goods, children’s toys… and lots of fashion… spread across the three floors at The Post.

Boscov said the department store chain offers items that shoppers often would find at Bloomingdale’s as well as bargains that shoppers would find in Walmart.

In terms of fashion, Boscov said the chain stays on top of the trends. Each week, Boscov’s sends its buyers to New York City for the day—they eat breakfast on the bus and eat supper on the bus on the return trip. “Their job is to know what going on in the industry,” said Boscov.

In addition to knowing what’s going on in the fashion industry, Boscov said the buyers also pay attention to what’s going on in the individual stores. If one store appeals to more conservative shoppers, they will tailor the inventory accordingly. If a store appeals to a more urban fashion clientele, again the clothing on the racks will be fille according.

At the Milford store, racks in the women’s departments were filled with well-known trendy brand names. There was Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nine West, Adidas, and Champion… among other brands.

Besides clothing, the store also offered fashion conscious shoppers a wide assortment of brand name cosmetics and perfumes.

Here models Victoria Johnson and Katerina Reichenbach try some of the styles available at Boscov’s junior and girls departments.
