‘Hocus Pocus’ witchy fashion gets the focus

You know it’s nearing Halloween when social media is aflutter with the “Hocus Pocus” happy dance.

And this year, there is plenty to dance about as the witchy-themed film celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The 1993 Disney film that has a launched a cauldron of gifs starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, is about a trio of evil witches unwittingly released by two siblings and their friend.

Recognizing the movie’s pop culture renaissance, Freeform is airing “Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Halloween Bash” on Oct. 20 at 8:15 p.m. EST.

Although fans loved (and continue to love) the film, film critics are less kind. According to www.RottenTomatoes.com https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1045250_hocus_pocus?, critics haved place the film firmly in the rotten tomato category with a handful of offering up mediocre reviews at best.

Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribute called “Hocus Pocus” “dreadful.” Stephen Hunter of the Baltimore Sun said, “’Hocus Pocus’ has no focus/has no rhyme, has no reason/ and is… out of season.”

Although social media is rife with rumors of a “Hocus Pocus 2,” with even an official looking “poster” making the rounds on newsfeed– proclaiming an immediate release to hike the pulse of fans, at this point there is no official movie in production.
