Presented under the precept that you don’t have to be “half naked” to be beautiful or feel good about yourself, the first ever International Islamic Muslimah Fashion Gala was held in Connecticut Dec. 29.
Modesty was the key word on the fashion runway at Ali Baba’s Fusion Restaurant in Hamden, Conn. The models, which represented a wide range of ages and shapes, all wore clothing that could be defined as “modest,” most worn with hijab’s and other respectful head pieces. But the colors, patterns, and adornments gave the items a sense of style and a fashionable pop.
The show, which was organized by Connecticut’s Nyomie Greco, featured clothing that reflected a more Muslim approach to modest from Flavors of Fullness and Hijab Sister’s Closet. Additionally, Kia’s Kollection, an urban inspired line, offered a more youthful approach to modesty during its runway show.
