The fashion runways at Miami Swim Week in mid-July find designers presenting aspirational swimwear. The garments are often the dreams of women, providing touchstones of the trends to come.

But tradeshows like Cabana and Capsule at the Miami Convention Center are all about what retailers think they can sell. So, designers present garments that they believe will fly off the hangars at local boutiques that sell swimwear.

At Cabana and Capsule, there were a few trends to note for the 2020 season.

Sporty swimwear, with a nod to athleisure seemed to be a popular trend this year.

High-waisted bottoms with a nod to the garments of the early-1960s “Beach Blanket Bingo” days were also in great supply.

Tops provided more support than cleavage.

Colors veered to bright, even neon, that will draw attention to the woman who wore the suit.

Coverups, either robes or shorts, also were a trend. Often these garments looked like regular daywear, allowing a woman to walk away from the pool or beach and explore the cute shops that gravitate to most resorts. And with the coverups, the women will less exposed.

Also, where the designers in Miami, catered often to a sexy look, at Cabana and Capsule, suits catered to real women who were looking for beautiful swimsuits that recognized not everyone is a centerfold.
