Whether intentional or not, Mister Triple X’s latest fashion collection, which was shown at Art Hearts Fashion Week on Feb. 6, evoked several pop culture references in my mind.

The line, which offered women’s and men’s wear, shown as part of New York Fashion Week squarely sat in the realm of streetwear and the art of cool.

Some of the creations for women by Erik Rosete reminded me of the video for Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher.” Styled with schoolmarm glasses and golden apples, the female models walking down the runway at the Angel Orenzanz Foundation on Norfolk Street, offered up a sexier portrayal of the nation’s educators.

For the men, Rosete definitely mined the bad boy vibe. With his faux leather jackets and the sleek silhouettes, I was reminded of the 1974 film about 1950s hoods starring Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler, “The Lords of Flatbush.” And the head gear and vests for the men reminded me of the 1968 cult classic about a youthful revolution, “Wild in the Streets.”
