The Council of Fashion Designers of America made this announcement and also released a calendar of events.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, designers in New York– as well as designers across the globe– have had to rely on virtual runway shows or fashion films to exhibit their new collections the past two seasons.

In its newsletter, the CFDA posted that NYFW will begin Wednesday, Sept. 8-12.

“The CFDA anticipates the week to feature a return to in-person shows produced in adherence to New York State Health Guidelines, along with a continuation of digital collection presentations,” said the news letter.

“With current signs of progress in the pace of vaccinations and the strategic, gradual reopening and tangible reawakening of New York City, we look forward to a strong fashion season that celebrates the best of American fashion in both physical and digital presentation formats,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, according to the newsletter.

“(NYFW) will culminate with the Met Gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,’ following the final day of shows,” said the CFDA.
