Rehearsals were underway.

Hair still in curlers, Connecticut’s Sapna Raghavan takes a break from Miss America rehearsals on Monday at the Mohegan Sun Earth Expo and Convention Center in Uncasville. In a few hours, the empty seats would be filled with guests and the empty stage would be filled with Raghavan’s peers competing for Miss America.

The audience’s arrival was hours away.

Makeup and hair preparation was a promise rather than a reality for the moment.

But Connecticut’s Sapna Raghavan took the time to talk about her Miss America experience thus far as she set her mind toward the second night of preliminary competition at the Mohegan Sun.

She spoke about her social impact pitch, which was on the agenda for Monday night. She also spoke about her bonding experience with the other contestants, Miss Arkansas Whitney Williams and Miss Indiana Braxton Kennedy Hiser.

The finals for Miss America are Thursday at 8 p.m. from the Mohegan Sun Arena. It will be streamed on Peacock.
