After a prolonged reign as Miss America thanks to COVID-19, Camille Schrier gets to hand over her crown to a new titleholder tonight.

The 50 women representing 49 states and the District of Columbia (Maine’s representative had to bow out due to COVID-19) will take the stage at the Mohegan Sun Arena at 8 p.m. The competition will be streamed on Peacock.

Schrier’s time as Miss America was longer than any other titleholder in history since last year’s competition, where she might have said hello to a successor, was canceled due to COVID-19. This year’s event will proceed but with more protocols in place to keep the competitors and guests safe from the vius. For example on the second night of competition on Monday, the women wore masks any time they appeared on stage in groups. The contestants also have been tested for the virus.

For today’s finals, all guests must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of show time or a vaccination card.

Connecticut’s Sapna Raghavan be vying tonight for the opportunity to be the next Miss America.

On the last night of preliminary competitions Monday, Schrier met with the press to field some questions. She had the opportunity to reflect on her potential successors and what’s next for the pharmacy student.
