Kristina Rauscher had learned to sew from her grandmother when she was just a child.

But she set aside the skill for many years.

However, when 2011 rolled around, Kristina decided to reacquaint herself with the passed-down skill.

That moment helped set the stage for Kristina’s entry into the world of fashion.

She opened up a shop selling babywearing and custom women’s clothing.

Yet, although she was in charge of her destiny, Kristina wasn’t loving what she was creating.

“A trip to Chicago Fashion Week to model a jewelry designer’s line relit that spark,” said Kristina. And from here, her brand – Altered Star Co., was born.

Kristina said her style is built on the foundation of alternative grunge culture.

Her grandmother’s lessons still come into play at Altered Star. Everything she does is handmade, and thus unique.

The Cleveland-based business has participated in several runway shows in 2023 including Fashion Talks in Cleveland, New York Fashion Week, Victoria Henley’s Magnifique Showcase in both Tennessee and Mississippi, and Sumter Fashion Week.
