Owned and operated by serial entrepreneur, radio host, and master distiller, Moises Sevilla, the Grand Cayman Distillery has, since its inception in the summer of 2013, produced some of the most critically-acclaimed and award-winning spirits available on the market. Backstage Pass had the opportunity to tour the facility.
Catering to a vast array of corporations (including some of the area’s top hotels, restaurants, bars and similar establishments) as well as to individuals for personal enjoyment, The Grand Cayman Distillery has quickly cemented its status, among consumers and critics alike, as a top distillery in the Grand Caymans, producing the some most carefully curated and well crafted spirits you can find anywhere.Â
A hidden gem nestled in the heart of the busting town of Grand Cayman, the Grand Cayman Distillery allows fine liquor enthusiasts the opportunity to book intimate tours of the distillery to provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the rigorous and intensive distilling process by the founder himself at the flagship location.
Energetic, personable, and wildly passionate about his craft, Sevilla welcomes the tour group into the distillery by introducing the group to his signature collection of award winning spirits, as well as a few new items, providing in depth insights behind not only the distilling process for each spirit but also what inspired each of them.Â
His Greek origins obviously sparked his lifelong fascination with Greek mythology, a common theme and denominator in many of the libations produced by this company.
A few of the many aforementioned spirits include Zeus Gin and Athena.
Other notable and internationally acclaimed spirits include the tropical classic (and one of my personal favorites) , Three Islands Triple Sec as well as the sweet and satisfying Three Islands Coconut Rum, Gun Bay Vodka and Blue Iguana Gin.Â
Every single bottle of Blue Iguana Gin directly supports the preservation of the endangered Grand Cayman blue iguana.
A crowd pleaser (and another personal favorite ) is the Three Island Coffee Liquor.
Our tour came complete with a tasting, featuring generous pours and in-depth factoids regarding all of the above liquors as well as a demonstration of what Moises calls the “Mother of Dragons” machine, which is vital in the distillation process of the myriad of beverages which Grand Cayman Distillery produces.
Special thanks to Moises Sevilla for facilitating our visit for this spotlight feature
