Maison at Yale gave fashion designer Lily Gao a moment to showcase artful fashions on the runway. The fashion show, dubbed “Mosaic,” was held April 13 at Tsai City inside the Yale University campus in New Haven.
After the show, Gao explained, the denim overals, dubbed “Tides,” is “a depiction of the sea’s exhale, of playing in the summer before school or work starts again. A reminder of freedom.”
The skirt and crop top, she said, is called “Ash.”Gao said it is “a reminder of fire’s last breath, the heavy darkness of the ashes and the smoke and warmth that rises at any disturbance.”
The suit jacket, which is called “Grief,” is “a depiction of loss and the five stages, armoring against new connections and staying stone-cold and fighting,” explained Gao.
Maison at Yale is a fashion and art collective at the Ivy League school.
