There was a certain appropriateness to designer Grayling Purnell’s runway show at New York Fashion Week.

The collection unveiled at Art Hearts Fashion on Feb. 8 evoked thoughts of the roaring ’20s and art deco in the city that gave us the Chrysler Building. The fabric’s lattice work and textures were a jump to the left of previous Purnell’s collection. Additionally, the body contouring of the floor length gowns and a yellow men’s suit elicited thoughts of cocktails at New York City’s legendary Studio 54.

The garments mined the gold, nude, and black end of the color palette. But  a red voluminous jump suit was a standout stunner at the Angel Orensanz Center on Norfolk Street.
