Candyce Scott, a Connecticut fashion designer and the creator of Gorgy by Candy (as well as a local politician), hosted a fashion show in New Britain to support the local Democratic Party and to celebrate diversity.

The show featured Miss Poland America Connecticut Julia Karwacki as a guest. The show also featured Gorgy by Candy pink clothing to commemorate breast cancer awareness month, and purple clothing to commemorate domestic violence awareness month.

“The fashion show was a fun way for the community to enjoy fashion and celebrate the diversity of the beautiful people who live in New Britain,” said Scott in an email.

The show featured Ireland, Italian, Polish, Puerto Rican, Haitian, pan-African and Jamaican clothing.

The models, who were culled from the New Britain community, did more than show off Scott’s fashions, she said. They learned about career opportunities, culture, geography, history and how to be empowered by sharing their own heritage in the show. “All of these things help our youth improve their self-esteem and learn about their identity,” said Scott.

Of her brand, Scott said, Gorgy by Candy “originates from celebrating diversity and will continue to illustrate diversity.”
