“Designer Confidential” is a series at CTFashionMag.com where we introduce the creative minds in fashion.

Name: Rachel DeCavage

Brand: Cinder + Salt, 520 Main St., Middletown, Conn.

How would you describe your style aesthetic?

Fun, fresh, with a laid back vibe.

What inspired you to be a designer?

Designing just happened for me. As an artist I’m always looking to elevate the every day. If something doesn’t look or feel right to me, I wonder what it needs to truly stand out. I take that excitement and apply it to my work, always asking what extra touches a style needs to really thrive.

Who is your fashion icon and why?

I recently read “The Glitter Plan” by the founders of Juicy Couture. While Juicy is so from my style, I loved their story. They truly are designers who just did what they loved and were wildly successful. I’m always inspired by rock star female entrepreneurs, no matter their industry.

What celebrity—living or dead—or fictional character would you like to dress and what would you make for them?

I would actually love to design some t-shirts for Jack Johnson. My company value-statement falls perfectly in line with the mission of the nonprofit organization he founded, All At Once. I’m planning to pitch a collab to their group soon.
