“Designer Confidential” is a series at CTFashionMag.com where we introduce the creative minds in fashion.

Name: Rachael AL-Mahdi of New Haven, Conn.

Brand: Luxe and Curves

How would you describe your style aesthetic?

My design aesthetic is chic, timeless and feminine silhouettes with resort inspiration. My desire was to make fashion forward pieces with a resort look that custom fit my curvy figure and by doing so, Luxe and Curves was born. I am not just the designer, but also a customer.

Every month I select beautiful fabrics and produce designs that breaks down the opinions of what a curvy woman can or cannot wear.

What inspired you to be a designer?

The core of our love of designing lies a foundation of celebrating body confidence and individuality. Being raised on a Caribbean island infused the love of color and nature in my heart. My designs are produced in the USA and sold exclusively via our online boutique – luxeandcurves.com at this time.

Who is your fashion icon and why?

My fashion icon is Tracy Reese. She represents all the things that make a great designer. She’s creative, humble, and an unbelievable humanitarian. I hope to follow in her footsteps to inspire everyone I meet to love who they are and appreciate the blessings given.

What celebrity—living or dead—or fictional character would you like to dress and what would you make for them?

My dream is to design gorgeous fashions for curvy actresses whom global brands refuse to dress. I would create custom dresses that would represent how beautiful curves are.
